Ice Phoenix

A creature that may or may not appear in the fantasy story I'm currently working on (it probably will later on), depends on my decision. I got the idea to paint it and thought it was worth painting anyway.

It was inspired by a previous work of mine, the "Pink Pelvis." That piece was a horse pelvic bone painted predominately in hues of pink. On one side of it I'd painted a pink phoenix-type of bird.

Anyway, the "story" of this piece:

~ The Ice Phoenix is a creature that lives high in the mountains, among ice and snow. She only ventures down from the mountains in snowy weather. Despite being a creature of the ice, she has bright, blindingly pink plumage. She can cloak herself to the eyes of other creatures at will.

Every 100 years or so, she builds a nest of ice. She freezes inside of it and dies. In the Spring, the ice thaws and her body decays. The rot nourishes a seed inside of her that drops to the ground and blooms. The bloom becomes a little cocoon from which emerges a juvenile, renewed Ice Phoenix.
