Description
A tiny painted skull I finished today, to be worn about the neck. Similar to my rabbit skull necklace (that can be found on my website).
The skull is from a young chick. Sadly, this little chick was a friend of mine before it passed away. It belonged to my friend Tiffany. Her family's been getting chicks to raise and chicks of the specialty breeds they like to get tend to be very fragile and die easily. This was one of the specialty breed chickens and it had grown up enough for everyone to expect it to live, but it just died suddenly. We don't know what killed it, disease, got too hot, got too cold... there's no telling.
So, I asked my friend (who knows I do bone art) to donate the corpse to me. I beheaded it and cleaned the little head in bleach. I attatched a wire loop to it with polymer clay, baked it to cure the clay, and painted it - so here it is.
-----------
Update: The physical piece no longer exists. Sadly, quite a long time ago, it was accidently destroyed when it fell off a dresser onto the floor. I did not see it there and stepped on it, crushing it. This is kept around as a reference in case I get another chicken skull to work with to reproduce it.

I've heard that bird skulls are very fragile. Is this true for chicks and chickens? It certainly is a beautiful piece<3
